Library Services at Florida Gulf Coast University
Facts & Figures
The FGCU Library serves more than 9,000 students in 52 undergraduate and 31 graduate degree programs.
In August 1997 the Library began serving students on the new FGCU campus from a small meeting room using three computers and a handful of reference books. By September 30, 1997,a 50,000 square foot library building was opened to the campus community. This original library building cost $6 million.
Work on a major expansion began in December 2004. See the Architectural Renderings and Construction Photos courtesy of the project’s architects, M.C. Harry & Associates of Miami, FL. Ajax Building Corporation of Tampa, FL served as the contractor and the expansion, featuring a 3-story atrium overlooking ponds and marshland, was completed in July 2006. The original Library building was then closed for renovation and upon its completion in June 2007, the renovated building was joined to the expansion to form a single, four-story Library (view the Library Map) of nearly 135,000 square feet. Together, the expansion & renovation in 2004-2007 cost $17.5 million.
