Six Steps for New Faculty to Start the Semester
1. Get your FGCU ID card with 14-digit #
Your department must complete payroll and sign-on details. After H.R. has this, your information will be entered into the Banner System. Then the ID office on the second floor of the Student Services building can make your ID. The FGCU ID is your LIbrary ID to check out library material
s and is needed for off-campus access to databases and ejournals, unless you connect via FGCU’s VPN
2. Prepare Reserve Readings for Online Course Reserves
See Course Reserve Policies and/or create persistent links for articles in FGCU databases. These may be put in your CANVAS courses.
3. Set Up Library Links in CANVAS
You can integrate library resources (course reserves, articles, librarians, library videos) into your CANVAS courses. Instructions are here. Or contact Anna Carlin, Instructional Technology Librarian for assistance: email@example.com, or 239-590-7663.
4. Request new supplementary materials to be added to Library collection

5. Meet Your Subject Liaison Librarian
Liaisons are your go-to librarians, connecting you to library services and collections. They are subject specialists who provide support for faculty and student research, instruction, and scholarly communication, and who build rich library collections. A liaison librarian is assigned to each academic program to ensure that library services and collections meet the needs of the students and faculty.
6. Learn Options for Information Literacy for Students
Basic Library Training and other Web-based tutorials are available on our “How Do I...?" Demos & Handouts page.
