Terms to Know

  • cannabidiol (cbd) - a constituent of cannabis that has been traditionally considered non-psychoactive.
  • cannabinoid - one of a class of chemical compounds that act on cannabinoid receptors, cannabinoids can be naturally derived from the cannabis plant or manufactured.
  • cannabis - a broad term that can be used to describe the various products and chemical compounds derived from the cannabis sativa or cannibis indica species.
  • dispensary - a store that can legally sell cannabis products--medical, *recreational, or both. The technical term for a Florida dispensary is Medical Marijuana Treatment Center (MMTC).
  • edible - cannabis products that are consumed orally. These products can contain THC, CBD, or a combination of the two.  Common edible products include cookies, brownies, and gummy candies.
  • hemp - the plant of the genus Cannabis sativa L. or any part of that plant ,including the seeds, extracts, cannaabinoids, isomers, acds, salts, and salts of isomers, whether growing or not,with a delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol concentration of not more than 0.3% on a dry weight basis.
  • marijuana - a cannabis sativa plant-derived product typically composed from the plant's dried leaves, stems, seeds, and buds.
  • medical marijuana - any processed product of the plant of the genus Cannabis, to include any compound, manufacture, salt, derivative, mixture, or preparation of the plant or its seeds or resin, including low-THC cannabis that is dispensed from a treatment center.  Florida law makes a distinction between cannabis and marijuana for the purposes of ch. 893 F.S., illegal substance violations. 
  • thc (tetrahydrocannabinol-delta 9) - the main psychoactive constituent of cannabis.
