This resource guide is designed to support university and community partnerships through the shared goal of supporting accessible, evidence-based services, activities, and information with and for the community.

Purpose

By using this guide, students, faculty, and community users will learn how to identify and locate books, e-books, peer-reviewed articles, and streaming videos for information or research purposes.  They will also be able to distinguish quality research and identify resources available for those impacted by Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

Scope & Content

This research guide is intended to serve as a starting point for users seeking information on Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or researching resources available through the Community Autism Network (CAN) @ FGCU.  The Community Autism Network (CAN) harnesses interdisciplinary university and community partnerships to promote: (1) world-class training and educational opportunities for members of the autism community, service providers, family members, faculty and students; (2) interprofessional research focused on the holistic health and inclusion of individuals with autism and their families across the lifespan; (3) supporting accessible, evidence-based services, activities, and information with and for the community.  This guide is intended to reflect current curriculum needs or areas of research at Florida Gulf Coast University, which means not all areas of ASD research will be represented equally. This is not intended to reflect the importance of any given research interest. As the curriculum changes, the scope of this guide will change, as well.

The content of the guide primarily reflects the resources available through the FGCU Library. Electronic resources such as databases and e-books may only be accessed by current FGCU students, staff, faculty, and emeritus faculty. General collection books may be checked out by current FGCU students, staff, faculty, emeritus faculty, and community users within the counties of Charlotte, Collier, Glades, Hendry, and Lee. All materials may be used onsite by members of the public.

For more information about accessing FGCU materials, please see the circulation policies HERE. Inclusion of publicly accessible materials such as those found on the Websites & Archives page is not an endorsement but is meant to guide researchers to possible resources of use.

Any comments or questions may be directed to the Health and Human Services Librarian. OR visit the Community Autism Network (CAN) website.
