Always try to corroborate facts in the news articles you're reading. If a study or statistic is cited, there should be a link to it. If there is no link or citation: 1) that's a sign that what you're reading may not be credible, since they aren't making it easy for you to "check their work"; 2) try searching Google for the name of the study or data referenced to see if you can find it and compare. You can also use Google to find information about authors, news sites/sources, and publishers. Credentials and reputation are important.
