Course Reserves

How to Place Items on Course Reserve

Course Reserve requests can now be placed using the library's course materials platform, Leganto, instead of using forms. Please read ahead to learn how you can manage your own course materials lists and ask for certain print and electronic materials to be added to your course materials lists.

General Steps to Add Course Reserves

Step 1: Create or edit a course materials list in Leganto.

Step 2: Add item(s) to your course list

  • Course materials lists can contain a wide variety of resources, including print books, electronic books, articles, videos, and websites. Many types of resources can be added directly by the instructor with no intervention needed and others may require library assistance.
  • For items that used to need a course reserves request form, the request "form" is now embedded in this workflow of adding items to lists.

Step 3: Allow for adequate time for any library processing to occur

  • For books in the FGCU Library collection or book chapter digitization requests from books we own,  please allow a minimum of 3 business days to allow library staff to retrieve and process these items.
  • For books or articles not in the FGCU Library collections, these items will need to be purchased by the library in order to be placed on course reserve. Books or articles received through interlibrary loan can not be placed on reserve. Book purchases or article use permissions are not guaranteed. It may take multiple weeks to obtain your requested item, so please plan ahead and place those requests early. We recommend that you think about placing course reserves requests soon after you submit your textbook adoptions for upcoming semesters.

Step 4: Share the course materials lists with your students

  • Once all items have been made available on your course materials lists, including links to electronic items and accurate locations for physical items, be sure to share the information with your students.
  • Course materials lists are easily incorporated into Canvas courses as either a single navigation element in your course or individual entries in your Canvas modules.
  • Student can search the course reserves catalog (this will only show books that are on reserve for a course) or the access course reading lists directly through the library website.
