Graduate students in the Educational Leadership (M.A.) program often have a common assignment in which they write an essay related to one or more of the standards. Refer to your professor's assignment guidelines or rubric for specific requirements. Below are some ways you might find peer-reviewed articles to support your essay. In addition, you may be required to use personal artifacts - a paper or project you completed, a description of an activity or training you participated in, etc. See your assignment guidelines for details.
Review the assignment guidelines to identity which standard you need to focus on. Identify a few keywords in each standard and search for those in the databases (listed on this page). You can add a couple of words to your search to reflect your personal interests or your current career role in academia. Don't forget to filter your results to peer-reviewed articles.
Here are some common search terms you might use. Using quotations around phrases will search those words together. Also, think of synonyms you might use. In addition to "higher education," you could use college OR university OR postsecondary. In addition to budget you might use revenue OR fundraising OR grants OR foundations OR tuition.
Links below will open search results in Eagle Search. When you see an article you are interested in, select the title and the record will open. Then under View Online, select one of the blue links to open a database that will provide full text.
In Ebscohost and Proquest, look for the PEER-REVIEWED filter to limit your results accordingly. Sage does not have a filter, but generally articles in Sage are PEER-REVIEWED.
If the article links do not open, type the title in Eagle Search.
Most databases have a checkbox to limit your search to peer-reviewed. Or, you can look up the JOURNAL TITLE in the Ulrich's database. If a journal is peer-reviewed, generally all the articles in the journal will be peer-reviewed (although there are exceptions, like editorial content). If the JOURNAL TITLE is peer-reviewed, a "refereed" icon will appear next to it. The icon looks like shirt with vertical stripes (think of a sports referee)!
