Cabells

Cabells is an online database that gives information about thousands of journals. It has two types of reports: Predatory reports and Journalytics Academic. Together, they form a complete tool to help researchers discover, verify, and evaluate academic journals.

Journalytics Academic is a specialized journal search platform designed to help researchers and institutions discover new publications, assess journal quality, and make informed decisions about publishing, funding, and staffing.

The journal listings provide publication details, submission guidelines, and in-depth metrics for thousands of verified journals across 18 academic fields.

You can search by discipline, ISSN, or apply filters to compare journals. Key metrics include:

  • Cabell's Classification Index (CCI) heat maps for assessing topic relevance
  • scite Smart Citations for analyzing citation strength (supportive vs. disputing)
  • Altmetric Reports for gauging journal visibility and attention
  • SDG Impact Intensity (SDGII) pilot metric (*not included in guide video)

Predatory Reports is a list of flagged journals that engage in predatory practices. Predatory practices can include unclear peer review processes, misleading metrics on the journals webpage, publication fees before submitting an article, and conflicting information throughout the journal. The report describes why the publication was flagged and the date the journal was reviewed.
