Research Impact Services

What does the library offer?

The FGCU library offers faculty members services to help measure and maximize their research impact. This guide provides information about what research impact is, different forms of measuring impact (bibliometrics, altmetrics), ideas for maximizing your impact, and accepted rules for evaluating research. This guide also provides an Impact Check survey to help you determine how you're doing with your impact.

Your research impact librarian is happy to help you with your impact journey. Together, we can measure your impact and create a plan to increase your research's visibility. Please reach out with any questions or schedule a consultation.

Workshops

The FGCU library will be offering 3 workshops about research impact in the Fall 2024 semester. They will all be 20 to 30 minutes in length and will be offered twice. You do not have to attend the first session to understand the others; they will overlap slightly in scope. Check back later to register for the second two workshops!

  • Maximizing Your Research Impact: This workshop will provide an overview to research impact and briefly go over popular metrics. It will also focus on ways to maximize your impact and how to responsibly evaluate research.
  • Bibliometrics & Altmetrics: This workshop will provide in-depth explanations for popular bibliometrics and altmetric software.
  • Arts & Humanities: This workshop will provide alternative measures for measuring impact in fields that don't easily lend themselves to citation metrics, like the arts and humanities.
