The FGCU library offered 3 workshops about research impact in the Fall 2024 semester. They were about 30 minutes each. While the live recordings of the workshops are not available, the workshops were re-done to be recorded. If you would like to watch any of these recordings, they are available to watch.
We hope to offer these workshops again in the spring semester, as well as others relating to research impact and scholarly communication. If you have any requests or ideas for topics, please contact Em Farmer.
Join us for our workshop designed specifically for professors seeking to maximize their research impact. In this session, we’ll explore the concept of research impact—what it is, why it matters, and how assessing it can elevate your academic career. You’ll also learn practical tips for increasing your visibility and influence as a researcher while ensuring responsible practices in measuring and assessing impact. Though this event is aimed towards those new to these concepts, this workshop offers valuable insights for all researchers to help you make a lasting impact.
Boost your impact with our Bibliometrics & Altmetrics Workshop, intended for researchers seeking to deepen their understanding of research impact. This session will explore what research impact is and why it's crucial to assess it before diving into bibliometrics. We'll cover article-level, author-level, and journal-level metrics and give guidance on using tools like Journal Citation Reports. We’ll then introduce you to the idea of altmetrics and tools such as the Altmetric Bookmarklet and PlumX, demonstrating how to effectively use them to track scholarly influence. The workshop will also review responsible practices for measuring and assessing impact, ensuring you engage ethically and accurately with these metrics.
Reach the full potential of your research with our Research Impact for the Humanities & Arts. This workshop will introduce the idea of research impact, explain why it's essential to assess, and briefly touch on how impact is traditionally measured. We'll then dive into the unique challenges faced by humanities and arts scholars, explaining why their impact is often different from STEM fields. Finally, we'll present alternative ways to measure your impact that better reflect the diverse nature of your discipline. Join us to gain valuable insights on broadening the recognition of your work and advancing its reach, no matter your field.
