All print orders must be sized by the patron to the desired dimensions. Submitting files significantly smaller than the desired size (e.g., an 8.5”x11” file for a 36”x44” poster) may result in blurred text or images and large white borders.
Patron Responsibilities:
Patrons are responsible for the design of their posters, including the creation of graphics and text formatting.
Create your poster in the exact size you require.
Background Design:
Solid color backgrounds in your poster design are not allowed, as they consume excessive ink and may cause drying issues. Posters with solid backgrounds will need to be revised and resubmitted.
Canvas Size and File Preparation:
Use full-size images with a resolution of at least 100 dpi (300 dpi is recommended for the best quality).
When using MS PowerPoint, turn on the Ruler option under Design > Page Setup to adjust the slide size to match your desired poster dimensions.
Save your final document as a PDF to ensure optimal print quality.
Supported Applications and File Formats:
Applications: PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat Professional, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
Files must be submitted as a PDF.
Font Recommendations:
Title Font Size: Typically between 60–77 points.
Text Font Size: Generally ranges from 24–36 points.
Text Editing Tips:
When copying text from another program, paste it into a text box within your design. This allows you to easily adjust the font size and style. Avoid pasting text directly into the poster without a text box, as this limits formatting options.
Image Quality:
Use high-resolution images (preferably 300 dpi). Avoid low-resolution images (e.g., 72 dpi web images), as they will appear pixelated when enlarged for large-format prints.
Print Process:
The printer can only be operated by the studio staff.
Printing services are available Monday through Friday only.
Staff will contact you with a cost estimate, which you can see a quick estimate here, and turn-around time once your file is reviewed.
Group orders of 10 or more files must be submitted 7 days in advance to ensure timely processing.
Pick up your print at the Makerspace during office hours.
