About the Library' 3D Printers
The FGCU Library has three printers available to faculty, staff, and students. These printers are FDM printers, which stands for Fused Deposition Modeling. These are the most common type of 3D printers available. These printers work by melting your material, generally a plastic, to just above it's melting temperature and forces the plastic through a nozzle onto a print surface. The machine then outputs the plastic exactly where it has been told to, to create your 3D model. This is a very inexpensive, accessible, reasonably efficient, and quick way to 3D print. These types of printers excel at creating large simple shapes and is much more straightforward than other types of 3D printing technologies.
